Abstract

A spontaneously inflammable composition comprises a metal alkyl and propylene, propane or a hydrocarbon having 4 carbon atoms. The metal alkyl may be aluminium trimethyl, aluminium triethyl, aluminium tri-n-propyl, aluminium tri-iso-propyl, zinc dimethyl, zinc diethyl, boron trimethyl, boron triethyl, aluminium lithium tetramethyl or aluminium lithium tetraethyl. The metal alkyl may be dissolved or suspended in the hydrocarbon. In an example a composition consists of 20% by weight of aluminium triethyl and 80% by weight of liquid propylene.
