Abstract

A gasoline composition comprises an organolead anti-knock compound, from 1.6 to 3.0 theories of halogenated hydrocarbon, and from 0.05 to 1.0 theory of a monoalkyl diphenyl phosphate having an alkyl group containing from 6 to 10 carbon atoms. The halogenated hydrocarbon may be ethylene dichloride or ethylene dibromide, but others are mentioned. The alkyl group of the alkyl diphenyl phosphate may be 2-ethylbutyl, n-hexyl, 2-ethylhexyl, isooctyl, n-octyl, decyl or an alkyl group derived from a C8-oxo alcohol. The organolead compound may be tetraethyl lead, and may be present in an amount of from 2.0 to 4.6 C.C. per U.S. gallon. Examples are given.
