Abstract
827,256. Universal joints. MOLLART ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. March 3, 1958 [Aug. 19, 1957], No. 26135/57. Class 80 (2). In a Hooke's joint, terminal member fork arms 18 are pivotally retained in axial slots 19 in an intermediate member 12 by radial pins 20. The slots 19 diverge towards the respective members for working clearance. Steel-backed bronze bushes 22 or needle rollers are provided in the fork arms 18. Oil is centrifugally fed to the pins 20 through channels 28, 29 from a reservoir 23 filled through a fitting 27 and sealed by end-plates 24, 25 which may be annular to permit internal passage of electric cables. The pins 20 are retained by an external split or peened-over ring 31 engaging countersunk heads. The member 12 may be cut away between the slots 19. The terminal members 10, 11 may be flanged, splined or serrated for shaft attachment.
