826,056. Masted lift trucks. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. March 6, 1957, No. 7378/57. Class 78 (3). In a masted lift truck, a pair of clamping arms or forks adjustably attached to the lifting carriage are hydraulically controlled, each by a separate ram, and means are provided for directing fluid to move one ram while holding the other against movement, then moving the second ram when pressure builds up in the first due to its arm or fork meeting the load or an end stop. As shown, clamping arms 10, 11, movable in a guide 14 mounted on the carriage of a lift truck, are controlled by rams 17, 18. Pressure fluid is supplied from a control valve 19 to either of lines 20, 21 to move the arm 10, and a check-valve 22 holds the arm against movement when pressure is cut off from line 21. Springs 27 acting against the fluid pressure on spools 26 in valves 25, 25a, prevent the fluid operating the ram 18 until the arm 10 is obstructed by the load or an end stop, causing a build-up of pressure in either line 20a or line 21a. By-pass valves 33 allow low-pressure fluid to return past valves 25, 25a from ram 18, and check valves 35, 35a hold the arm 11 against movement while the arm 10 is being moved.
