Abstract
A protective coating is applied to a light metal (aluminium, aluminium alloy, magnesium alloy, titanium or titanium alloy) by cleaning its surface, applying a coating of epoxide resin to the cleaned surface, wholly or partly curing the resin, shot-blasting the resin coating, and flame-spraying a metallic coating thereon. The resin coating may be applied by brushing, spraying in a solvent, flame-spraying or dipping. If necessary several layers of resin may be applied, each being pre-cured before application of the next with a final cure preceding the metal spraying operation. The metal coatting may consist of tin-bronze, aluminium bronze, steel containing up to 1% carbon, or stainless steel. Several alternate coatings of resin and metal may be applied.ALSO:A protective coating is applied to a light metal (aluminium, aluminium alloy, magnesium alloy, titanium or titanium alloy) by cleaning its surface, applying a coating of epoxide resin to the cleaned surface, wholly or partly curing the resin shot-blasting the resin coating, and flame-spraying a metallic coating thereon. Several alternate coatings of resin and metal may be applied. The metal coating may consist of tin-bronze, aluminium-bronze, steel containing up to 1% carbon, or stainless steel.
