Abstract

825,530. Gas-turbine plant. HOBSON Ltd., H. M., and GREENLAND, L. S. Sept. 13, 1956 [Sept. 21, 1955], No. 26984/55. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] An acceleration control unit for a gas-turbine fuel supply system comprises a device 33 responsive to compressor delivery pressure for controlling a fuel metering valve 4 to maintain a constant fuel/air ratio at any selected engine speed, a device sensitive to engine speed, e.g. diaphragm 47 responsive to the delivery pressure from an engine-driven fuel pump 1, which modifies the relationship between the metered fuel flow and the compressor delivery pressure, and a pressure regulating valve 3 in series with valve 4 for controlling the pressure drop across the metering valve and preventing excessive fuel delivery during engine acceleration and connected to a device, e.g. diaphragm 32, sensitive to the whole or a portion of the pressure drop across valve 4. A gear pump 2 supplies fuel on starting the engine and at the given speed is de-clutched at 19 so that pump 1 supplies fuel past the flap valve 30. Piston 38 actuating the metering valve is exposed on one side to pump pressure and on the other side by a pressure derived through a restriction 41 from the pump line but modified by the hinged leak-off valve 43 moved in response to compressor delivery pressure by capsule 32. The pressure drop across the metering valve 4 is equal to the pressure drop across the diaphragm actuated valve 5 and a restriction 45. As pump delivery pressure, and therefor engine speed, increases diaphragm 47 closes valve 5 and diaphragm 32, having one face open to pressure downstream of valve 4 and the other to upstream pressure modified by valve 5, moves to the left to open the regulating valve 3. In a modification the parts 5, 45 and 47 are dispensed with and the chamber to the left of diaphragm 32 is connected upstream of the valve 4. Compressor discharge pressure at 34 is modified by a leak-off valve, downstream of a restoration, actuated by a piston responsive to pump delivery pressure before it is applied to the capsule 33. Specifications 764,072, 802,144, 825,529 and 825,531 are referred to.
