The fuel supply to a gas turbine engine is controlled during acceleration or deceleration in accordance with empirical relationships where Ni is the desired speed, Na the instantaneous speed, P the pressure and T the temperature of the air intake to the engine compressor. The air intake temperature signal, obtained by temperature sensitive resistor 10, and the instantaneous speed signal, measured by a tachogenerator 2, are combined at 11 to produce the positive signal f(Na/#T) and the negative signal f<SP>1</SP>(Na/#T)), one of which is allowed to pass back-toback diodes 13,14 when the desired speed Ni, manually selected at 17, is different from the actual speed Na, as compared at 18. The function signal is now multiplied by #T at 15, the temperature being measured by a second temperature sensitive resistor 9, multiplied again by P at 16, the pressure being measured by a pressure sensitive element 8, and integrated at 3. The resultant signal, representing the ideal speed change without causing the engine to fail, is compared at 1 with the actual speed Na from the tacho-generator 2, any difference being amplified at 4 to energize a motor 5 controlling the fuel supply valve 6.
