825,419. Filters ; filter media. BILLNER VACUUM CONCRETE S. A. Oct. 30, 1957 [Nov. 2, 1956], No. 33895 /57. Class 46. [Also in Groups XXII and XXVIII] Filaments, e.g. of steel, alloy or glass, of circular cross-section, are held in a frame under a tension sufficient to increase their lengths and uniformly reduce their diameters, but insufficient to cause their elastic limit to be reached. The tension may be applied by clamps 22, and a frame 26 then secured between the clamps, the filaments 20 finally being severed between the frame and the clamps. One transverse member of the frame may be detached and have bolts parallel to the filaments threaded through its ends, each bolt abutting a longitudinal member of the frame so that by movement of the bolts the tension may be varied. In Fig. 10 (not shown), three circular units, of progressively-reducing aperture size, in series, are clamped between two hemispherical fittings, each tapped and threaded for fitting to a faucet or in a pipe line. In Fig. 12 (not shown), a single unit for municipal water filtration has the filaments supported by transverse ribs on a concrete base.
