Abstract

1472768 Coupling pipes to taps J ANESSI 13 Nov 1974 [13 Nov 1973 14 Oct 1974] 49067/74 Heading F2G A tap 14, Fig. 4, is mounted on the wall 4, Figs. 2, 3, of a sanitary appliance having a single hole 5 through which pass water supply pipes 10a, 10b, by upper and lower plates 1, 2 (see also Fig. 1) which are clamped on opposite sides of the hole, the ends of the pipes being clamped to the upper plate 1 and sealed to the tap body 14. As shown, the two plates 1, 2 are connected by a bolt 6 and the tap body 14 is connected to the plate 1 by a screw 12 engaged in a threaded hole 11 through the plate. The plates 1, 2 have holes 9a, 9b for the pipes, and a hole 8 for the bolt 6. The lower plate 2 may alternatively consist of two parts 19a, 19b, Fig. 6, hinged at a pivot 20 and inserted through the hole 5 in collapsed condition from its top for subsequent straightening, Fig. 7 (not shown). As modifications, the tap body 14 may be provided with a circular peripheral flange engaged either by the lipped end of a surrounding internally threaded nut (22), Fig. 8 (not shown), screwed on to an external thread (23) around the periphery of the plate 1, or having a series of holes (25), Fig. 9 (not shown), for threaded studs (27) screwed into tapped holes (26) around the edge of the plate 1. The ends of the pipes 10a, 10b are each surrounded by a washer 15, Fig. 5, and an 0- ring 16 which are compressed by frusto-conical surfaces 18 at the ends of conduits 17 in the tap body 14 to clamp and seal the pipes. Modified constructions for clamping and sealing the pipe ends include forming spigots at the upper ends of the pipe holes in the plate 1, through which the pipes are passed and sealed by 0-rings 16, either radial grub screws (28), Fig. 10 (not shown), passing through each spigot to engage its respective pipe or tangential cotter pins (29), Fig. 11 (not shown), engaging between the repective spigot and pipe to clamp the pipes to the plate. In other constructions for clamping the pipes to the plate 1, each pipe end is provided with an enlargement (31), Fig. 12 (not shown), of larger diameter than the corresponding hole in the plate, and is surrounded by an 0-ring 16; pimples (32), Figs. 13, 14 (not shown) are formed in the pipe ends to enlarge them radially after insertion through the holes in the plate 1; a split-ring washer (32), Figs. 15, 16 (not shown), surrounds each pipe end and has a triangular cross-section corresponding in shape to a recess (8a) found around the upper end of each pipereceiving hole through the plate 1; and a solid, deformable metal ring (33), Figs. 17, 18 (not shown), surrounds each pipe end and is of triangular cross-section with its base abutting the top face of the disc 1 and its apex resting against the top end of the pipe.
