Abstract
824,905. Fusible cut-outs. BELLING & LEE Ltd. April 25, 1958, No. 13167/58. Class 38 (1). A ring-main fuse or a high-breaking capacity fuse is made of a silver or other fusible element 1 surrounded by a filling of silica sand or diatomaceous earth in a ceramic tube 6 aud having one end secured to erd cap 7 by a pellet of solder 9 saturated with silver and the other end gripped between a notched plate 5 of ordinary solder and closure cap 13 (Fig. 7). During manufacture the solder pellet 9 is melted by standing the incomplete assembly on a hot-plate, the use of solder saturated with the material of the fusible element preventing any weakening of element 1 by combination of material from that element with the solder pellet. Subsequently the assembly is stood on a vibrator 11 (Fig. 5), and the filling inserted. The alloying of solder from plate 5 with element 1 in overload conditions reduces the melting point of the element so that the fuse blows in conditions of comparatively low overload.
