824,823. Bulkheads and framing. GOTAVERKEN A. B. Dec. 16, 1957 [Jan. 18, 1957], No. 39097/57. Class 113. A ship comprises bulkheads 1 vertically and symmetrically corrugated with respect to a vertical plane 9 and sited mid-way between two reinforcing frames 3 so that the longitudinal ribs 6 and 8 extending along the underside of the deck and bottom plating 5 intersect the bulkhead plating at the places where the plating intersects the plane of symmetry 9. The bulkhead 1 may be connected to the side plating 2, or a longitudinal bulkhead, by vertically extending plates 15 and 16, the upper and lower ends of the plate 16 may be wider than the intermediate part and may have an edge stiffening strip 17. The ship may be constructed in units, the first unit comprising the transverse bulkhead 1 and the second unit comprising the adjacent portion of the side plating 2 or longitudinal bulkhead with ribs and the vertical plate 15. Plate 16 may be welded to the first or second units and the construction completed by joining the plate 16 to the other unit. The ribs may be continuous and the bulkhead and ribs may have inter-engaging recesses.
