Abstract

824,372. Electromagnetic switches. CIBIE, L. Dec. 10, 1956 [Dec. 22, 1955], No. 37713/56. Class 38 (5). A switching device for limiting the current supplied by a shunt-wound dynamo comprises a U-shaped magnet yoke 2 having a core surrounded by a pair of coils denoted by 1, one coil (the voltage coil) being connected in shunt and the other (the current coil) in series, with the dynamo. A polepiece 4 welded to the upper end of the core has a portion 4b of lesser thickness and a portion 4a of greater thickness underlying, respectively, armatures 6, 5 carried by blade-springs 16, 8. On rise of voltage in the voltage coil the armature 5 is first attracted due to the smaller air-gap 7 and contacts 10, 11 are closed, whereupon current flows through the current coil to reinforce the contact-closing pressure. If the current through the coils increases to a sufficient extent armature 6 is attracted to open current-limiting contacts 18, 19. The armatures are restored by blade springs 12, 21, the latter being associated with a bimetal temperature compensator 22. Spring 8 is also bimetallic for temperature compensation.
