Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0824357/IV (b)/1> wherein R is a hydroxyalkyl, cycloalkyl, cyanoalkyl, aminoalkyl, alkaryl or arylideneaminoalkyl radical and R1 and R11 are alkyl radicals; and also a process for the preparation of hydrazinium salts of the above general formula wherein R may be any alkyl, substituted alkyl, carbocyclic, substituted carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical and R1 and R11 may each be one of the groups specified for R or may, taken together, form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, by reacting chloramine and a tertiary amine NRR1R11, the amino nitrogen not being part of a pseudo aromatic ring. The reaction is suitably carried out by reacting gaseous chloramine, preferably in the form of a chloramine-ammonia gaseous mixture, optionally diluted with nitrogen, with a tertiary amine, in aqueous solution or in anhydrous solution in an organic solvent, which may, for example, be an excess of the amine, or by surface deposition from the vapour phase. Examples describe the preparation of the 1:1:1-trimethyl-, triethyl-, diethylcyclohexyl-, dimethylphenyl-, diethylphenyl-, dimethylhexadecyl-, (2 - hydroxyethyl)dimethyl-, (2-hydroxyethyl)diethyl-, dimethyl-ptolyl-, tri-n-propyl-, tri-n-butyl-, tri-n-hexyl-, tri-n-heptyl-, octadecyldimethyl-, dimethylsoya-, diethyl - (3 - hydroxypropyl)-, di - (2 - hydroxyethyl)methyl-, di - (2 - hydroxyethyl)phenyl-, tri-(2-hydroxyethyl)-, dimethyl-(2cyanoethyl)-, dimethyl-(3-aminopropyl)-, diethyl-(3-aminopropyl)-, b -(p-octylphenoxyethoxy)ethyldimethyl-, 3 - di - (hydroxyethyl)aminopropyl - hydroxyethyl - n - octadecyl -, di - (hydroxyethoxyethoxyethyl)tallowyl, dihydroxyethyldehydroabietyl -, phenyldi - n - propyl -, - propyl -, hydroxybenzyldimethyl -, (hydroxybis - (dimethylaminomethyl) - benzyl)dimethyland dimethylantipyryl-, hydrazinium chlorides and as compounds wherein R1 and R11 together form part of a heterocyclic ring the 4-methyl-4-aminomorpholinium, 8-aminonicotinium, 2-heptadecyl - 4:4 - bis - (hydroxymethyl) - 3 - amino - oxazolinium, 1 - aminohexamethylenetetraminium, aminobrucinium and 1-aminoquininium chlorides.
