Abstract

823,664. Lifting devices for engaging articles. UDDEHOLMS A.B. March 20, 1957 [March 21, 1956], No. 9086/57. Class 78 (4). Members 8 (Fig. 1) inserted between parcels 1 lifted in rows by clamping shoes 2, are suspended from rods 7 joining the shoes 2 so that they can be moved in planes perpendicular to the rods. The shoes 2 are carried by bent levers 3 carried by shafts 4 urged to grip the parcels by a connection, e.g. through chains 9, to a lifting eye 11. As illustrated each pair of arms 3 is joined by an equalizing beam 6, shown in plan in Fig. 3, which is connected by the chains 9 to a beam 10 carrying. the eye 11. The members 8 may comprise tubes, chains or ropes or, as shown, plates suspended by vertical slots from the tubes 7. The plates 8 may be formed with grooves or jags for gripping the load. A releasable connection (not shown) between the beam 10 and the framework formed by the tube 7 permits the device to be lifted by the eye 11 without gripping a load.
