Abstract

823,433. Hearing aids. SHIPTON & CO. Ltd., E. Dec. 31, 1957 [Dec. 31, 1956], No. 39676/56. Class 40 (4). A deaf aid, comprising a microphone or inductive pick-up coil 10, a transistor amplifier 3, 4, a battery 5, and a sound-reproducing device 8, is provided with means such as spring clips or a rubber ring 15 for securing it to the earpiece 19 of a telephone handset. A screen 17 protects the pick-up coil 10 from the magnetic field of the sound-reproducing device 8, which may be associated with a tubular extension (not shown) adapted to fit into a user's ear. An aperture 11 in the casing 1b, which may be exposed or covered by a part-circular cover 12 rotatable about a central boss 1c on the casing, allows the battery 5 to be inserted or withdrawn. The casing carries a switch and a volume control (not shown), and there may be also a gravity-controlled switch which switches off the amplifier except when the handset is in its operative position. The amplifier circuit is printed on a panel 2.
