Abstract

823,403. Direct connections between conductors. PYE Ltd. July 10, 1957 [July 10, 1956], No. 21360/56. Class 38 (1). A joint between the inner conductors 4 of coaxial transmission lines is made by brazing a brass collar 5 in the end of each conductor, inserting a member 1 preferably of metal so that its ends are received in collars 5 and securing it by screws 3 passing through holes in collars 5 and engaging peripheral V-shaped grooves 2 in member 1, the tightening of the screws drawing the ends of conductors 4 into firm engagement. A locating ring 6 is provided round member 1. The outer conductors 7 are connected by bolted flanges 8. In an alternative construction only one end of the member has a V-shaped groove while the other fits closely in the end of one conductor and is brazed therein, while the grooved end is inserted into the other conductor and engaged by set screws. The ungrooved end is of larger diameter than the grooved end and a shoulder is thus formed in the member. The member may be polygonal instead of cylindrical, or may be ribbed or fluted over its outer surface. The grooves may not be V-shaped although they must have an inclined wall, and they need not be continuous.
