Abstract
823,381. Pitch. LEUNA-WERKE W. ULBRICHT VEB. Jan. 13, 1956, No. 1245/56. Class 55 (2). Phenolic pitch obtained as a residue from the distillation of crude cresol is mixed with an additive such as coal-tar pitch, lignite-tar pitch, generator-tar pitch or acid resins obtained from the regeneration of lubricating oil for refining purposes to reduce its watersolubility, the mixing temperature being 10- 60‹ C. above the softening point of the phenolic pitch or the additive whichever is the higher. One part by weight of the additive may be added to 1 to 3 parts by weight of the phenolic pitch. In a modification the additive is added to a crude phenolic oil distillation residue before it is distilled to obtain a phenolic pitch, the mixture then being distilled to give a soft, normal or hard pitch as required. In this latter case 2-5% concentrated sulphuric acid or waste acids or 20-30% acid oils such as the residues from refining phenols may be added to the mixture before distillation. In an example 50 parts by weight of a phenolic pitch was melted with 50 parts by weight of an acid resin from the regeneration of lubricating oil and mixed at 125-135‹ C.
