Abstract

124,605. Thorp, F., and Thorp, H. T. April 13, 1918. Sulphuric acid.-The acid tars obtained in the refining of coal-tar oils with sulphuric acid are distilled with steam to recover benzene, etc.; the residue in the still contains dilute sulphuric acid. Or the sulphuric acid may be separated by mixing the acid tars with water prior to the steam distillation.
