Abstract

The high-boiling phenols present in low-temperature coal tar are isolated by distilling the tar at ordinary pressure, collecting the fraction passing over at a temperature of 220-300 DEG C., and then separating the phenols from the neutral oils in the fraction by any known process. If desired, the distillate may be further fractionated prior to the separation treatment. The products are useful as disinfectants.
