Abstract

822,920. Ventilators MEREDITH & CO. Ltd., J. T., and WATSON, A. E. May 10, 1957 [May 11, 1956], No. 14786/56. Class 137 In or for an air duct B, a diffuser comprises a plurality of multilateral vanes D having rectilinear edges, on a fixed supported member (not shown), so as to present their surfaces obliquely to the airstream through the duct B, and a corresponding number of plates H mounted on a common support which may comprise a block J mounted in a tube E for axial slidable movement therein and in screwed connection with rods K which support the plates H, the inclined passages between adjacent vanes being controlled by relative axial movement-between the assembly of vanes D and the support whereby the ends of the plates H act as obturators in the passages. As shown, the duct B, vanes D or plates H are of square cross-section but may be of rectangular cross-section. The block J comprises a nut upon a leadscrew M which is mounted rotatably in transverse plates N, N and is rotated by means of a hand-wheel P to advance or withdraw the assembly of plates H.
