822,541. Magnetic fastenings. MILLAR, R. D. Feb. 27, 1956 [Nov. 29, 1954], No. 34530/54. Class 44 A magnetic catch for a door or the like comprises a magnet and a contact plate, one of which is mounted on, and engages around at least part of the periphery of a cylindrical bearing of rubber or similar resilient material so as to permit rocking towards and away from the other element. In the examole shown in Fig. 1, a horseshoe magnet 13 is mounted in a housing 12 by means of three rubber bushes 14, 15, 16 screwed to a side wall 11 of a cupboard. The contact plate 22 is screwed to a door 10, and the resilient mounting of the magnet 13 compensates for mis-alignment between the door 10 and the cupboard wall 11. In the example shown in Fig. 3 a bar magnet 33 is enclosed in a housing 32 in a door 30. Two pole pieces 34, 35 are secured in the housing 32 by means of screws 36 and project slightly through an opening in one of the walls of the housing. The contact plate comprises a metal block 39 disposed within a housing 37 mounted in a recess in the door jamb 31. The contact plate 39 has a limited amount of lateral and rocking movement about a rubber bush 41 and screw 42. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the contact plate 52 has a central recess 53 and is secured to a door 50 by means of a screw 55 and flexible rubber grommet 54. A retaining member 56 provided with flanges (not shown) and spikes 58 prevents the contact plate 52 turning about the grommet 54.
