Abstract

822,529. Moulds for rubber shoe soles. NOVA, A. May 20, 1957, No. 15961/57. Class 87(2). A device for moulding and vulcanising rubber soles to footwear uppers has a base mould portion and an upper frame provided at the top with a bearing edge for the last carrying the upper and insole. The base mould is formed with an upwardly projecting portion the internal surface of which merges into the surface adapted to mould the lower face of the sole and acts together with the inner frame surface as a part of the surface adapted to mould the lateral surface of the sole, means being provided for pressing the frame on the base mould to set up a pressure between them sufficiently high as to prevent seepage of rubber through the seam between the frame and base mould due to the high internal pressure in the sole during vulcanisation. To this end the top surface of the projecting portion of the base mould 2 and/or the lower surface of the frame 3 is provided with a recessed portion 4 in order to reduce its area and hence to allow of a considerable increase in the above-mentioned pressure. This high pressure is set up by the shorter arm 5 of a bell-crank lever the longer arm 6 of which is operable by hand. This shorter arm abuts a corresponding portion 8 of the top surface of the frame 3 which is inclined at a sufficiently small angle as to ensure non-reversibility of the clamping movement.
