[Also in Group XXX] Fish are fed to an operating machine in correct position with belly down and sides upright by endless belt conveyers comprising top and bottom conveyers 1 and 10, Fig. 3, and pairs of side conveyers 12 and 13. The fish are placed belly leading, on a transverse conveyer, not shown, which drops each fish, belly down, into a receiving trough 21, the conveyers 1 and 12 of which carry it away to the conveyers 13, thus making room in the trough for a succeeding fish. The conveyers 12 align the fish upright from outside the trough walls 11 which, however, have slots so that the belts 12 can partially enter to engage the fish. Fixed cam casings 24 incline the belts 12 to enter such slots. The further ahead belt conveyers 13 and still further ahead the top conveyer 10 all centre the fish accurately. The conveyers, e.g. 13, converge and can yield sideways for larger fish, their guide pulleys being mounted on yielding arms 28 movable equally by inter-engaging toothed segments 31. In a modification, Fig. 5, the top conveyer 10, Fig. 3, is replaced by a series of yielding guides 17 which extend much further beyond the other conveyers to press on and guide the back of the fish.
