An electrical control system for controlling the amount of electrical energy supplied to a load comprises apparatus for continuously deriving an instantaneous voltage which is proportional to the instantaneous rate of supply of energy; integrating this voltage to obtain a voltage proportional to the amount of energy supplied and utilizing this integrated voltage to operate a switch to remove the supply when the desired amount of energy has been supplied. The energy supplied by a source 6 to a load 7 is controlled by two valve amplifiers 2, 3, the voltage gains of which are proportional to the volt drops across resistors 4, 5 respectively, that is the voltage across, and the current taken by, the load 7. The voltage so derived appears across the resistor 10 and is proportional to the instantaneous delivery of power. A condenser 12 is charged from a source 14 under the control of a control device 13 which is itself under the control of the voltage across the resistor 10. The voltage which appears across the condenser 12 is thus proportional to the amount of energy supplied to the load 7 and this voltage is arranged to operate an inertia-less switching arrangement to cut off the supply to the source 6 when the desired amount of energy has been supplied to the load 7.
