871,563. Automatic temperature control systems. STEGHART, F. L. F. Feb. 22, 1957, No. 35152/60. Divided out of 871,562. Class 38 (4). In an electronic control system for automatically-maintaining temperature at a desired value, temperature variations are detected by an element in a bridge circuit controlling an electric motor-driven regulator through an electronic amplifier and negative feed-back is provided by a switched heater influencing a temperature-variable element introducing a voltage in series with the bridge output. In the arrangement described, which is identical with one described in Specification 871,562, deviation of temperature from a desired value influences a thermistor 201 to unbalance a D.C. bridge circuit 200 the output of which is effective, through an electronic amplifier, to operate a temperatureregulating motor 38 in the appropriate direction. The amplifier-controller, which has negative feed-back through a derivative network to introduce an integral component of control. When motor 38 is at its extreme position, starting up from cold, it closes a switch 229 to energize a heater 227 associated with a thermistor 221 in a second bridge circuit so that an opposing bias voltage, to prevent excessive overshoot, is introduced into the output of bridge circuit 200. A thermistor 220 compensates the second bridge circuit for ambient temperature variations.
