Abstract
821,024. Thermal switches. THOMPSON & CO. (SUNBURY) Ltd., and BENFORD, P. R. May, 24, 1956 [June 29, 1955], No. 18822/55. Class 38 (5). A cut-out for an immersion heater comprises contacts 10, 14 enclosed in a easing 11 attached to a metal base 2 carrying the heater element 1, the contacts being operated by a slidable plunger 19 extending through casing 11 into base 2 and controlled by a bimetallic catch device 24 mounted in the base. The device 24 is U-shaped and has apertures 26 normally engaged by the head 27 of a pin 23 attached to a spring-biased lever 21 bearing on the end of the end of the plunger 19. When the device 24 is overheated, its arms move outwards to release the pin 23 and plunger 19 is forced downwards to push spring contacts 14 away from the fixed contacts 10. The cut-out is reset by pushing the plunger upwards.
