Abstract

880,252. Automatic control systems for pressure cookers. RITTER, H., [trading as RITTER, H., ALUMINIUMWARENFABRIK [Firm of]]. Sept. 30, 1959, No. 33227/59. Class 38 (4). An on-off switch controlling an electrically heated pressure cooker is arranged in a hollow housing surrounding a safety valve of the cooker so as to be subjected to steam escaping from the safety valve. In Fig. 1 a safety valve 10, loaded by a pivoted lever 6 carrying a weight 9 and mounted on a pressure cooker lid 1, releases above a predetermined pressure so that steam escapes into a housing 3 of heat insulating material to operate a temperature-responsive relay 12. Operation of relay 12 interrupts the circuit to an electrical heating element of the pressure cooker until after pressure returns to the predetermined value. Steam escapes through slots 4 and 5 and condensed steam is released through aperture 8. In one modification the safety valve is loaded by its own weight and in another loading is by means of a spring.
