[Also in Group XXXVI] A glass jig for use in an electroplating process, (see Group XXXVI) is made by laying a plate 15 of soda glass on two strips 16, 17 of soda glass which rest one at each side of a copper strip 20 located on a platform 19 on a steel block 18 having a raised portion 25 at one end. A nickeliron alloy strip 34 which is wider than the strip 20 rests on the strip 20 and strips 16, 17, and is overlain by the plate 15. Steel blocks 38, 39, 40 rest on the assembly, pins 41, 42 locating the blocks 39, 40 with respect to the block 18 by engaging slots 30 ... 33 in the block 18, the glass-engaging faces of the blocks 18, 38 ... 40 being located with indian ink. The assembly is heated in a hydrogen atmosphere to the melting point of the glass, whereby the parts 15 ... 17 fuse together, the carbon from the ink on the blocks 18, 38 ... 40 preventing sticking of the glass to the blocks. The strip 34 is subsequently dissolved out in boiling nitric acid. Specification 741,621 [Group XXII] is referred to.
