Abstract

The surface of a metal workpiece is case-hardened during a spark erosion process by using a dielectric liquid comprising hyrocarbons which are substantially aromatic, obtained by solvent extract of a petroleum distillate and have a carbon hydrogen greater than seven. The workpiece is preferably of steel. Specifications 774,090, 774,091, 780,197, 782,443 and 800,449 are referred to.
