Abstract
1485206 Shearing ALPHA INDUSTRIES Inc 15 May 1975 20595/75 Heading B3W A tube 20 is held in clamp dies 16, 18, which have a slot transverse to the tube axis 22, while a shallow slot is formed in its upper surface by a blade 26 moved between full and broken line positions, Fig. 1, by a cam track 110, depending from a ram 14, engaging a follower roller 106 on the blade support slide 90. As the cam track moves the blade 26 away from the tube on lowering of the ram a shearing blade 32, acting in the same plane as blade 26, severs the tube. Clamps 16, 18, urged apart by springs 50 acting between die holders 34 and 44, are held closed for the slotting and shearing operations by a two-part cam 54, 72, depending from the ram 14, acting on follower rollers 40, 46 on the holders 34, 44 respectively. In an intermediate position of the ram 14 a shaft 66, which makes a lost-motion connection between the cam parts 54 and 72, is located between the rollers 40 and 46 allowing the springs 50 to open the dies for insertion and removal of workpieces. The blades 26 and 32 are maintained in the same plane by means of spacers in their mountings.
