PURPOSE:To automate a welding work efficiently and safely, by using a clamping device having a specific structure for positioning and fixing various shapes of liner plate bodies, when welding a shaft plate to the liner plate body. CONSTITUTION:In the carrying-in stage, a shaft plate 3 is fed to the front of a base 16 of a clamping device 5, and a liner plate body 2 held by a holding device is carried in and clamped. For instance, in case of a C type body 2, a pressing roller 18 is moved backward, and a positioning roller 23 is advanced by hydrulic pressure mechanisms 24, 24 to a position conforming with the radius of curvature of the body 2 by use of a stroke adjusting mechanism 28. Subsequently, the body 2 is inserted onto the shaft plate 3, the roller 18 is advaned, being guided by a guide mechanism 21 by use of a hydraulic pressure mechanism 19, the body 2 is pressed against a press-contact plate 39, and is clamped without a space against the plate 3. After that, a rotary table 4 is fed by 1 tact, and the body 2 and the plate 3 are welded in the first welding state.
