Abstract

820,696. Ventilating apparatus. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Feb. 20, 1958 [March 1, 1957], No. 5615/58. Class 137 An air conditioning unit comprises a casing, a plenum, connected to a supply of primary air, extending lengthwise of the casing, an inlet and an outlet in the casing, an elongated slot in the plenum having lips extending into the casing to form a nozzle such that the discharge of primary air therefrom induces a stream of secondary air through the inlet to mix with the primary air, and means to pass secondary air across the nozzle to be mixed with the primary air at the back of the unit. As shown, a casing 2 has an inlet 3, an outlet 4, and a plenum 5 provided with a slot 8 extending lengthwise of the plenum and having lips extending into the casing. Primary air discharged through the slot induces secondary air through the inlet 3, past a heater (or cooler) 10, some of the induced air passing through conduits 13, 14, 15 to mix with the primary air at the back of the unit. The heater may be provided with fins 11 and may be trapezoidal in shape. The lips of the slot may converge in the direction of discharge and may have sawtoothed edges, Fig. 4 (not shown), or they may be sinuous, the opposite edges being complementarily placed with respect to one another, Fig. 5 (not shown).
