Abstract

820,653. Rotary distributers. ADAMSHYDRAULICS Ltd., and HOUSTON, J. F. Sept. 11, 1957 [Jan. 7, 1957], No. 648/57. Class 69 (3). A liquid distributer comprising one or more distributer arms rotatable about a vertical axis by the action of the liquid being distributed has at the outer end of the or each arm a wheel running on a track or surface and driving a braking device whose braking effect increases with increase in speed of rotation of the wheel. As shown, a rotary arm 11 of a sewage distributer is connected to a combined track and water wheel which is driven by liquid flowing from an orifice 22 in the arm 11 into vessels 21 within the wheel. The arm 11 is connected by a universal joint 14 to a bar 13 carrying a gear-box 15 having a low speed spindle 16 geared to the wheel 17 and a high speed spindle 20 carrying an air brake 19 provided with blades 19a at opposite ends. The braking device may alternatively be of the kind in which friction is caused by movement due to centrifugal force or it may comprise an electric generator. When the driving vessels are not attached to the track wheel they may be coupled thereto by gearing, a chain and sprocket, belt drive or a combination thereof. A zig-zag strip is mounted edgewise on the wheel to enable it to grip the track.
