Abstract

677,340. Spray-producers &c. WALSH, W., and TUKE & BELL, Ltd. Oct. 9, 1950 [July 14, 1949], No. 18610/49. Class 69 (iii) A rotary sewage distributer of the type comprising a revolving circular sewage container 5 supporting a number of distributing arms 13, is driven by the sewage acting on one or more water wheels 16, 17 housed within the container and rotating on radially disposed spindles 19, and means are provided for transmitting the drive from the wheels to a circular driving rail 23 concentrically disposed within the container. The spindles 19 are hinged on pins 20 on a fixed column 4, and the outer end of each wheel hub 18 carries a roller 18a which grips or meshes with the rail 23. The container is carried within a frame 12a which rotates on bearings about the column. The sewage is fed upwardly through the column and through orifices 4b to troughs 14, 15 which have oppositely arranged outlets directing the sewage to vanes providing deep pockets in the wheels, and the wheels are rotated in opposite directions. The sewage passes through orifices 5a to the distributing arms 13. A ratchet device may be provided so that when the sewage flow diminishes the distributer may continue to revolve under its own momentum without driving the water wheel or wheels. Alternatively, the sewage may be fed through an overhead feed pipe.
