Abstract

1,226,317. Plucking poultry. STORK AMSTERDAM N.V. 29 Sept., 1969 [4 Oct., 1968], No. 47824/69 Heading A2U. In a poultry plucking device the means for driving rotatable spindles carrying plucking fingers and the bearings for the said means are mounted in a box-beam to protect them from water sprayed on the poultry during plucking. In the shown embodiment the box beam made of parts 1, 2 supports a plurality of plucking members (only 1 shown) each comprising rotatable spindle 5 carrying cap-shaped support 16 with flexible plucking fingers 16a. For each plucking member the box beam has a fixed stub shaft 3 supporting ball bearings 8 which rotatably support a belt driven pulley sleeve 10 (or gear wheel sleeve) enclosing the bearings 8. Bolts 12 connect the flange 13 of spindle 5 to sleeve 10. The spindle 5 carries a rotary disc 15 and the box carries a fixed plate 7 having a flange 18 between the disc 15 and flange 17 of support 16, and a flange 6 in bore 4 surrounding a sealing ring 14 on spindle 5.
