Abstract

820,383. Finishing fabrics. TOMLINSONS (ROCHDALE) Ltd. Jan. 7, 1958 [Jan. 4, 1957], No. 388/57. Class 42 (1). A machine for raising a pile on fabrics, of the type comprising rows of teazles arranged around the periphery of a cylinder, is characterized in that the inclination of the longitudinal axes of the teazles relative to the axis of the cylinder is variable. Each teazle 11 comprises a spindle 12 rotatably mounted in a bracket whose base plate 13 is provided with two holes, one 14a which is circular, and one 15 which is elongated, whereby the bracket is bolted to two members 16 extending along the surface of the cylinder, one of the members 16 being fixed and the other movable longitudinally of the cylinder. The movable members 16 are extended beyond one end of the cylinder and are provided with lugs 19 which engage in a groove 18 in the periphery of a disc 17, the disc 17 being movable towards or away from the cylinder by means of a screw-threaded member passing through a hole in the machine frame (not shown), thereby altering the relative positions of the fixed and movable members 16 and the inclination of the teazles. The Specification refers to the possibility of varying the inclination of the teazles by using quadrants and a worm drive, and of employing a servo-mechanism to ensure that an even drag is imparted to the fabric throughout the raising operation. Reference is also made to the possibility of so constructing the machine that the inclinations of the various teazles may be varied by different amounts.
