Abstract
1,061,965. Tufting machines. SINGERCOBBLE Ltd. Nov. 13, 1964 [Nov. 23, 1963], No. 46353/63. Heading D1G. In a tufting machine the needle plate is adapted to be raised and lowered by adjustment means relatively to a fixed part of the bedplate. As shown, a fixed girder 11 has a sloping surface 12 and is formed with slots 13 which traverse surface 12 and which accommodate gear pinions 13 on a shaft 15 rotatable by means of a handwheel. A wedge-sectioned bar 16, resting on surface 12, is formed with racks 17 meshing with the pinions 14 and slots 18 in bar 16 engage guide pins 19 upstanding from girder 11. A plate 20, supporting the needle plate 21, rests on bar 16 and carries dependent slotted bars 22 engaging guide slots in girder 11. Rotation of shaft 15 thereby serves to raise and lower needle plate 21, and the latter may be secured in adjusted position by clamp screws 23 engaging the slots in bars 22. It is stated that the rising and falling needle plate and the means described in Specification 1,061,966 for varying the length of the pile tufts may be operated simultaneously from a common control member.
