Abstract
The invention comprises the compound bis-isopropoxycarbonyl ethylene - bis - dithiocarbamate and its preparation from isopropyl chloroformate and a salt of ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamic acid, preferably an alkali metal salt in aqueous solution below 25 DEG C. An example is given of the process. The corresponding methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl and 2-octyl esters are referred to, and also the 1 : 2-propylene homologues.ALSO:A fungicidal composition for plants comprises bis-isopropoxycarbonyl ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamate in solution or mixed with an inert finely-divided solid carrier. The latter must not be basic, and can be a neutral or acid clay or talc, with or without a dispersing or wetting agent. A specific composition contains clay, magnesium carbonate, a condensed naphthalene-formaldehyde sodium sulphonate and a t-octyl-phenoxy-polyethoxyethanol. This can be applied dry or dispersed in water. For application in solution acetone and dimethylformamide are suitable solvents, and wetting and sticking agents can be added before or after dilution with water. The compositions can be mixed with soil and/or other non-basic fungicides or insecticides. They can be applied to any part of the plants, to harvested seeds, or to the soil.
