Abstract

The manufacture of pesticidal compositions which will form adherent coatings after spraying in aqueous dispersion comprises mixing an agent capable of combating pests with a water-soluble condensation product of formaldehyde and a urea compound which contains at most two carbon atoms (or the N-substitution derivative of such a compound) and which is capable of condensing with formaldehyde to form condensation products of high molecular weight. Suitable urea compounds are urea itself, thiourea, cyanamide, dicyandiamide, dicyandiamidine, biguamide, or mixtures thereof; the alkyl or aryl compounds of these urea compounds such as biuret; or addition products of amides such as methyl-urethane with compounds such as dicyandiamide, biguanide or dicyandiamidine. Urea-formaldehyde condensation products of so called limited solubility are particularly suitable. Suitable part combating agents include fungicides such as copper oxide or hydroxades (e.g., in the form obtained in example 2 of Specification 584,307, [Group III], copper oxychloride, sulphur, organic mercury or sulphur compounds, e.g., imidothiodisulphazolidine, and fluorine compounds, e.g., fluorinated fatty acids, fatty alcohols or fatty amines having at least four carbon atoms, and insecticides such as arsenious acid, calcium arsenate, chlorinated naphthalene, dichlordiphenyltrichlorethane and like compounds described in Specifications 460,647, 547,871, 566,386 and 566,387, nitrogen compounds such as b - acetyl - b - isopropyl methylene - tetramethyldiamine, 2 : 4 - dinitro - thiocyano - benzene, nitro-chloro-carbazoles, nitro-chloro phenyl-naphthylamine or diazo-amino compounds and natural products such as derris or nicotine. The above pesticules may be used in admixture. Spraying liquids may be formed directly and these may also contain agents which accelerate hardening, such as ammonium thiocyanate, or ammonium chloride, the latter being used if desired in admixture with urea prepared as described in Specification 583,471, [Group IV], with or without dead burned gypsum. Alternatively dry preparations may be made either by mixing the dry components or by drying aqueous mixtures thereof. Such dry preparations may contain the above hardening accelerators, filling materials or agents for producing a visible coating such as kaolin, bentonite or gypsum, wetting or dispersing agents such as sulphite cellulose waste liquor, methyl cellulose, the mono-sodium salt of 4-sulphophthalic acid (21 - ethyl - butyl) - (211 - 4 - ethyl - hexyl) ester, sodium di - isobutyl - napthalene sulphonate, the di-isoamyl ester of sodium succinic acid sulphonate, or adhesives such as casein.
