Class 64(3) A heat exchanger comprises two or more matrix blocks each consisting of an assembly of plates separated by spacing strips such that fluid passages are formed between adjacent plates, the fluid flow directions in adjacent passages being transverse to one another and the sides of the fluid passages being bounded by the spacing strips at least one of which extends beyond the one matrix block, the extension constituting the side wall of a passage in an adjacent block. In Fig. 3 for example two sets of fluid passages are formed in each matrix block and the spacing strips 10 bounding the passages of one set in matrix block 5 extend beyond that matrix and form also the spacing strips for the passages of one set in matrix block 6. Similarly the spacing strip 9 in matrix block 6 are extended as shown to form spacing strips in matrix block 5. Secondary heating surfaces 13 are provided in the matrix block passages. A, heat exchanger is described in which a number of matrix blocks are grouped at the end of a pressurized container in which electrical equipment is housed. Warm air from the container is circulated by a blower through one set of passages of the matrix block group, and cooling air is circulated through the other set of passages.
