Abstract

819,759. Waterproof explosive pellets. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. E. I. April 30, 1957 [July 19, 1956], No. 13743/57. Class 9(2) A waterproof insensitive explosive pellet comprises a symmetrical core of at least one explosive inorganic nitrate surrounded by a continuous coating of a plasticised polyvinyl chloride, the said core being of such dimensions that an amount of coating of less than 10 per cent by weight of said pellet will provide an average coating thickness of at least 3 mils. The core may be spherical or cylindrical with a diameter and length of at least 0.25 inches. It may be of ammonium, sodium or potassium nitrate or of an alkaline earth metal nitrate or of a mixture of these. The plasticiser may be any conventional plasticiser such as dioctyl phthalate. An organic fuel may be included in either the pellet or the coating.
