Class 9(2) A high density blasting explosive comprises a cast composition having a cross sectional area of at least 3 square inches and consisting by weight of from 15 to 20% of ammonium nitrate of fineness such that at least 96% will pass through a 65 mesh screen and at least 604 will pass through a 100 mesh screen, from 45 to 55% of sodium nitrate of coarseness such that at least 98% will pass a 10 mesh screen and at least 90% will be held on a 20 mesh screen, from 15 to 20% of ferrosilicon of fineness such that at least 95% will pass an 80 mesh screen and at least 45% wilt pass a 200 mesh screen, from 12 to 17% of TNT, from 2 to 5% of dinitrotoluene and from 0 to 0.35% of stearic acid the density of said composition being at least 1.8 grams per cc The composition may be contained in a water-impervious container into which it is cast.
