Abstract
819,626. Impregnated paper battery-separators. TEXON Inc. Dec. 24, 1957, No. 40039/57. Class 96. A separator for an electric accumulator is made from a thin web 13a of an air-permeable paper, e.g. formed of highly purified, mechanically treated α-cellulose fibres and thoroughly impregnated, e.g. with a phenol-formaldehyde resin at the " A "-stage dissolved in water. The web may be dried, and is formed with spaced ribs 12a, the crests of the ribs being highly compressed between dies so that resin and fibres may be displaced laterally from the crests, the web being at e.g. 50 to 80 C. so that the resin is in the " B "-stage when it is removed from the dies, whereupon it is cured to the " C "-stage. The crests of the ribs are thus densified, but remain highly permeable.
