Abstract
1,136,165. Impregnated acrylic fibre sheet. ACSA-APPLICAZIONI CHIMICHE S.p.A. 22 Feb., 1966 [23 Feb., 1965], No. 7626/66. Heading D1P. An acrylic fibre sheet is impregnated with an acid-resistant resin. The sheet is felted or woven and has a thickness of 0.1-1 mm. The material of the fibres is a homo- or co-polymer containing at least 80% of acrylonitrile. It may also contain vinyl acetate. The resin is phenol-aldehyde, aldehyde-furfural, pvc, pva, or polyethylene. It is applied in solution, as an emulsion, or in the fused state. Acrylic paper may be impregnated with an aqueous solution of p-f resin, passed between pressure rollers, dried (and the resin cured), and cut to shape, to produce a product containing 120% of resin (based on untreated paper) which may be used as a porous separator for plates in an electric accumulator.
