Abstract

1378541 Compressing heated foamed films IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 May 1973 [2 June 1972] 25863/72 Heading C3C A grain-like finish is applied to a foamed film of a synthetic thermoplastic material by passing the film between a pair of heated nip rolls, the spacing of the nip being 30-80% of the thickness of the film whereby the film is compressed and the cell structure is deformed, and the film surface is heated to a temperature at which shrinkage of the surface of the film occurs thereby preventing total recovery of the cell structure. The foamed film may be an open-celled film formed of a mixture of low and high density polyethylenes and carbon black.
