Abstract

819,152. Heating air; heating systems for buildings. ASHTON, B. Feb. 20, 1958 [Feb. 21, 1957], No. 5841/57. Classes 64(2) and 64(3) Air is heated in passing through a plurality of superimposed, horizontally extending, series-connected passages a formed behind the fireback and side cheeks of a domestic fireplace, the air entering the topmost passage through an inlet a3 and flowing downwardly through successive passages to an outlet a4 from the lowermost passage. The passages a may be formed in the fireback and sidecheek members A, B of the firespace in which case the rear wall of the passages is formed by a backplate C (Figs. 1 to 3), or alternatively the passages may be formed in the backplate C as shown in Fig. 5. The heated air may be directed to a radiator (e.g. a sinuous tube), airing cupboard, hotplate, towel rail or heated cabinet. A back boiler may be incorporated.
