Class 126 [Also in Group X] An appliance for admitting air to buildings comprises a ferrule or housing 1 in an opening in a floor, wall or like surface, within which is slid to be rotatable therein a hollow tube or plunger 7 having a closed upper end with a flange 8 and a knob 9, an outlet vent 10 or vents with a grille, perforated sheet, a meshed screen or like means 11 and an open bottom end, so that the plunger may be regulated for controlling a flow of air from the outlet vent 10 or vents. In the form shown the ferrule 1 has a flange 2 with screw hole 13 for attachment to a floor and sawcuts 4, the open bottom end of the plunger 7 has a grille or like filter which is detachable and may house a detachable porous pad for impregnation. The filter may be made undetachable. The ferrule and plunger may be other than circular, the shape of the flanges being modified as required. By means of a projection and depression in the contacting faces of the cap 8 and flange 2, respectively, the plunger 7 may be located relative to the ferrule 1 in the closed position
