Abstract

818,363. Reciprocating pumps. NEWTON, CHAMBERS & CO. Ltd. Dec. 20, 1955 [Aug. 12, 1955], No. 23283/55. Class 102(1). In a liquid dispenser comprising a liquid container 3 secured to a body 1 having a cylinder bore 16 communicating through a port 25 with the container 3 and through a valve 18 with a nozzle 19 and housing a piston 15 reciprocated in one direction by a lever 20 and returned by a spring 17, the volume of liquid dispensed is pre-set by adjusting the position at which communication between the pressure chamber 22 and the port 25 is cut off. In the embodiment shown four positions are provided by three axially and circumferentially spaced bores 24 which communicate with an axial bore 23. By rotating the piston 16 one or other of the bores 24 is brought into alignment with the port 25. The fourth position is obtained when cut-off is controlled by the front face 15A of the piston. The angular position of the piston is set by engagement between the side faces of a square head 27 and the cheeks of the lever 20. In a modification the bores 24 are replaced by grooves in the periphery of the piston. In a modification the piston is angularly located by means of a splined end engaged by a splined plate; these pistons have a corresponding number of bores/ splines. The container 3 is secured to the body 1 by a bayonet fastening and locked by a bolt accessable from the face of the body which engages a wall plate. The body is locked to the wall plate by a spring loaded plunger releasable by a special key. Air is permitted to enter the container 3 when a waisted portion 15B uncovers an air inlet port 28 separated from the port 25 by a barrier 29. Specification 818,364 is referred to.
