Class 34(2) A tumbler drier comprises three basic parts-a casing 1, Fig. 1, with a door 2, a drum 3, Fig. 2, and a drum supporting structure having U-shaped angle irons 19, Fig. 3, connecting a fan in a volute casing 30 with an air heater box. This box 6, Fig. 2, has a gas burner 13, air inlet louvres and holes 15, 15a, 15b, an access door 51 and an upwardly extending flue having walls 5, 9, which form, at their upper ends, the walls of a drum mounting 17. A perforated plate 11, through which issues hot air and combustion products from the box, lines part of the mounting and the wall 5 mounts a door abutment seal 4. Both the fan casing and the heater box mount graphite drum bearing blocks 21, 39, and felt drum sealing rings 23, 41. An arm 37 of one iron 19 carries a motor 42, Fig. 6, which drives both drum and fan. The box 6 and the drum have automatic gas lighting equipment 49 and a fan protection gauze 28, respectively. In a modified box drum bearing a felt ring 52, Fig. 9, is interposed between flanges 10<SP>1</SP> and 8<SP>1</SP> on the box wall 9 and the drum, respectively. The box 6 may incorporate electric instead of gas heating.
