Abstract

817,983. Steam irons. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON March 8, 1957 [March 8, 1956], No. 7768/57. Class 138 (2). An electric steam iron has a drop-by-drop water feed system disposed inside but separable from a water reservoir, the system forming an assembly which is applied solely by pressure against a seating in the reservoir and is maintained in position by securing means which can be released to allow removal of the assembly from the reservoir. As shown in Fig. 1 the feed system comprises a tube 1 which is attached to the handle 16 by a tube 5, through which water is supplied to the reservoir 6 by way of holes 1<SP>1</SP> in the tube 1 and 9<SP>1</SP> in reinforcing cylinder 9. Tube 1 is attached to a member 2 containing an orifice 6b communicating with the vaporization chamber, the flow through the orifice being controlled by valve 3. Member 2 seats on a gasket 17, made of a material capable of withstanding a temperature of about 250 C., which seals the gap between member 2 and member 14 which itself is welded to the base of the reservoir and is screwed within hut 13 which is welded to the vaporization chamber cover. A circular clip 7 welded to the tube 1 provides the means for attaching the water feed system to the handle by screw 7<SP>1</SP> and for sealing the opening in the top of the reservoir through a gasket 18, which is capable of withstanding temperatures of about 100‹ C., when the cover 15 is attached to the sole-plate 11 by screw 19. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the member 14, instead of being screwed to nut 13, is seated upon it with an intermediate sealing gasket.
